Eight Popular Chinese Dishes Included In Chinese Buffet In Dallas
Let's talk about eight of the most popular Chinese dishes that are a must in every Chinese restaurant that serves buffet style meals. These eight dishes are ma po tofu, wontons, sweet and sour pork/chicken, gong bao chicken, spring rolls, dumplings, peking duck and chow mein. These dishes are available in most of the Chinese restaurants in Dallas. If they don't have it, then they might as well scrap this off their menu or just consider these restaurants as a watered down version of the authentic ones.
Ma Po Tofu
Ma po tofu is one of the most famous dishes with a history that spanned off more than 100 years. This is a hot and spicy dish which consists of tofu with brownish red ground beef and chopped green onion. This dish happens to be one of my favorite. I just won't miss it whenever I'm having Chinese buffet.
Wontons
Wontons are shaped like a right triangle. Usually, they are boiled and served in soup or sometimes deep-fried. You can have either diced shrimp or minced pork filled wontons. Not really my favorite, but I'll still have it if I was served with one.
Sweet & Sour Chicken/Pork
It is orange-red in color and a heavenly sweet and sour taste. Initially, this dish only uses pork. However, to meet the demands of other types of taste buds they started using chicken and moved on to other ingredients.
Gong Bao Chicken
Gong Bao Chicken is a well-known Sichuan dish and it is popular among Asians and westerners. It is prepared using diced chicken, dried chili and fried peanuts.
Spring Rolls
These spring rolls are filled either with vegetables or meat. The taste can be sweet or savory. These spring rolls are deep-fried till they are golden yellow in color before they are served to the hungry customers.
Dumplings
Dumplings are made of minced meat and finely-chopped vegetables wrapped into a thin and elastic piece of dough skin. Dumplings are usually eaten with a dip of soy sauce.
Peking Duck
This is another one of my favorite Chinese dish. You should not miss this brownish roasted imperial duck because if you do, your Chinese buffet will not be complete! This is a must in every Chinese Buffet in Dallas.
Chow Mein
This noodle stir-fried dish comes in different varieties. You can get different types of Chow Mein which is of course, if they are available at that particular restaurant. Such as Chicken Chow Mein, Beef Chow Mein, Seafood Chow Mein and the list goes on.
Words of advice
We all know that eating a buffet style meal is quite challenging because of the overwhelming selections that we are presented with! Here are some tips that I have thought of from the countless experiences that I have gone through and I hope that these tips will be of some help to all you buffet goers out there. But, before that, I would like you to know that these tips greatly depends on your size, current hunger status (hungry to I could eat a horse), health and anything that might hamper your ability to enjoy these food to the fullest.
How to Eat Buffet Style Meal
1. Plan ahead of time so that you will have lots of food space for this event. What I mean is to try not to eat too much before going for the buffet.
2. Always if you could, eat with your buddies. This is very important because their presence allows a lot of time for you to chit chat with them and it will prevent you from gobbling up your food continuously. (This is a good strategy!)
3. Never rely on your eyes to decide how much you can eat! (Remember the phrase "big eyes")
4. Browse over the food and decide on what you really feel like eating that time.
5. Take only small portions of the food that you really want to eat so that you will not be stuffed later.
6. Leave some space for desserts later.
I hope these tips will be helpful to all of you and like I said earlier, be wise in making your decision according to your well-being at that particular time. Eat smart folks!
